Our Board

We are happy to introduce our Board of Directors members and officers for 2025–26. (Updated March 2026)

Cheryl Gannon — President
Term: 2024–2027

Cheryl retired in 2024 from her profession as an Orientation & Mobility Instructor & Teacher of Students who are blind & visually impaired. A life-long sports enthusiast, Cheryl played recreational softball, tennis and racquetball in her youth. She has volunteered and held office in many organizations including her local youth soccer club, school budget committee, and PTA. She currently stays active in sports with her family (including 2 VERY sports-minded grandsons!) playing golf, pickleball, kayaking & hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

A 10+ year volunteer for Sports Education Camps for visually impaired, Cheryl is passionate about finding and developing programs that give visually impaired people opportunities to learn about and participate in all manner of physical activity and sport — to enjoy the benefits that movement has for their independent mobility and fitness. But most of all, sports are FUN and provide opportunities to develop independent life skills and friendships!

Dr. John McMahon — Secretary / Fundraising Chairperson
Term: 2023–2026

John earned a Master’s Degree in Blind Rehabilitation from Western Michigan University (WMU) in 1985, and his doctorate in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from WMU in 2013. Dr. McMahon worked in the blindness profession for more than 40 years. John was a competitive wrestler in high school and college, and has taught numerous sport activities at Sports Education Camps for more than 25 years. Dr. McMahon has been a board member of MOBALE since its inception.

Amy Giroux — Treasurer / Fundraising Committee
Term: 2025–2028

Amy has been an active part of MOBALE’s board since August 2022, contributing time, energy, and passion to support youth sports. She brings valuable skills in finance, fundraising, registrations, leadership, coaching, and event planning. She is proud to help create opportunities for visually impaired athletes to grow, develop, and enjoy different sports both on and off the field.

Beyond the boardroom, Amy is also: the Club Admin/Registrar for Central Maine United Soccer Club (6 years), the Registrar for Winslow Travel Soccer Club (5 years), and the Team Manager for her son’s U19 premier soccer team. When not volunteering, Amy enjoys cheering on her two children at their various sports — her son in High School Soccer, Premier Soccer, and Track; her daughter in High School Soccer, Wrestling, and Outdoor Track. She also enjoys watching and supporting her husband and son referee youth and school soccer.

Lindsay Ball — Board Member / Summer Camp Director
Term: 2025–2028

Lindsay is an Assistant Professor of Adapted Physical Education at SUNY Cortland. She is a 2014 Paralympian in alpine skiing and now long-distance runner. Lindsay grew up in central Maine and attended MOBALE sports education camps as an athlete. Though she no longer resides in Maine, she is dedicated to sharing her passion for — and the importance of — physical activity and sport with the youth who are blind and visually impaired of New England.

Kyle Miller — Board Member
Term: 2023–2026

Kyle loves to teach and participate in all sorts of sports, adaptive or otherwise. He has volunteered as an instructor at MOBALE camps for several years, has been on the Board of Directors since 2023, and served as Sports Camp Director since 2024. Kyle plays rugby and at one point was internationally ranked in the low vision division for CrossFit.

Tim Allen — Board Member
Term: 2024–2027

Tim has been involved with the sports camp since 2003. He started as an athlete at the age of eight and continued until he aged out in 2013, then continued to volunteer in 2014 and 2015. One of his favorite things about this camp is that he was able to join his high school wrestling team because he learned how to adapt the sport for the blind and visually impaired. Now that he has come back as a Board member, he is proud to pass on his experiences and show campers that no matter your ability, you can do anything that you put your mind to.

Derek Cote — Board Member
Term: 2024–2027

Derek is a collegiate wrestler and proud member of MOBALE. Sports have always been a big part of his life, and wrestling has taught him discipline, perseverance, and the importance of mental toughness — both on and off the mat.

As someone who is visually impaired, Derek is passionate about creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities to compete, grow, and lead. Through MOBALE, Derek hopes to inspire others to challenge limitations, build confidence, and find empowerment through athletics and community.

NEW Jordan Kim — Board Member
Term: 2025–2028

Jordan grew up playing a variety of sports and went on to play college soccer at the University of Maine at Farmington. Since 2017, he has worked as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, and he loves bringing his passion for sports into his work by teaching and adapting activities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

NEW Isabelle “Izzy” Bailey — Board Member
Term: 2025–2028

Isabelle “Izzy” Bailey is a current social work graduate student at the University of Maine. She joined the MOBALE board in 2025 after serving as a volunteer in the summer camp program, and she is passionate about creating inclusive opportunities for blind and low vision youth in Maine. You’ll often see her accompanied by her guide dog, Bright, who is a champion tug-of-war player!

NEW Hanna Daigle — Board Member
Term: 2025–2028

Hanna joined the board in 2025 and is so excited to support this camp. MOBALE is near to her heart as her daughter has been attending for the last three years. Hanna’s family loves to be outside exploring whenever they can. Her daughter has always enjoyed playing sports; however, with the consistent decrease in her vision it was extremely difficult to navigate keeping her in sports. MOBALE has lifted her daughter’s confidence, taught her new ways to adapt, and built friendships with others who are navigating similar challenges. Hanna is so thankful for this camp and looks forward to the years to come!
