Maine Organization for Blind Athletic and Leadership Education

Maine Organization of Blind Athletic and Leadership Education (MOBALE)

MOBALE is designed to provide introduction and competitive sport opportunities to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Our Mission

In the upcoming year MOBALE will work with resources around Maine to facilitate a winter and summer sports education camp, as well as conduct outreach to communities state-wide.

What We Offer

MOBALE provides a fun and interactive atmosphere where each athlete is assessed for physical ability and engaged in activities including:

  • Goalball - A team sport designed specifically for blind and visually impaired athletes
  • Swimming - Adapted aquatic activities and competitive swimming
  • Track & Field Events - Running, jumping, and throwing events with adaptive techniques

Looking Ahead

As we launch MOBALE, we are excited about the opportunities ahead to serve youth who are blind and visually impaired across Maine. Our vision is to create regular sports education camps that will give athletes the chance to discover new abilities, build confidence, and develop leadership skills through athletic participation.

Why Sports Matter

Sports and physical activity are essential for all young people, providing benefits that extend far beyond physical fitness:

  • Physical Health: Improved strength, coordination, and overall fitness
  • Social Development: Building friendships and learning teamwork
  • Emotional Well-being: Increased self-confidence and positive self-image
  • Life Skills: Goal-setting, perseverance, and resilience
  • Independence: Greater mobility and orientation skills

For young people who are blind or visually impaired, adapted sports programs like MOBALE provide unique opportunities to experience these benefits in an accessible, supportive environment.

The Beginning of Our Journey

This inaugural blog post marks the beginning of MOBALE's online presence and our commitment to keeping families, athletes, volunteers, and supporters informed about our programs and activities.

We believe that every young person, regardless of visual ability, deserves the opportunity to participate in sports, develop athletic skills, and experience the joy of competition and achievement.
